What was my motivation to create an Instagram CV?

It’s increasingly hard to stand out from the flood of traditional resumes as a job seeker. Working as a recruiter, I was often bored with looking at the “same” content, one CV after another… However, when it came to stalking someone on Instagram, I inadvertently invested more time into that activity. It just captured me, glancing into someone else’s life, getting to know a bit more about another person’s view of the world.

It made me wonder why scrolling through Instagram is more engaging than reading resumes? By doing some research, I realized that;

📸 Consuming pictures is not only way faster but more stimulating to our minds.

🎨 Pictures provide space for creative freedom to tell stories.

Moreover, it shows;

🏄‍♀️Personality; how are you different?

🍩Vulnerability; who are you really?

🥑 Values; what do you believe in?

In light of these thoughts, I decided to create my very first imperfect Instagram CV https://www.instagram.com/barbarakocsorcv/.

It is not superb. It might not even bring any gain for me (yet), but it was a great mental exercise; the whole creative process allowed me to reflect on myself, think out of the box and not at least have lots of fun meanwhile.

Ps. I imagined my Instagram CV to reflect reality, like snapshots from an actual person’s life. All the imperfections serve as evidence that I do not want to trick the reader into the illusion of perfectness.
